MAJAHUAS - Turtle Sanctuary

Let Pat take you on a Day Trip to a truly unique and magical place!  A sanctuary devoted to turtle preservation.  Majahuas is a relatively un-visited penninsula that you must get to by fishing boat/water-taxi from a member of the local co-operative.  One side of the "island" is beautiful and wild, open ocean, where 5,000 mother turtles come seasonally to lay their eggs, the other is a calm sweet-water river.  In the middle - where they meet - is a bird esturary - where storks, rosiette spoonbills, herons, cranes and ibis call home.  Here, you will see baby turtle hatchlings waiting to be released into the surf at sunset... We will feast on fresh catch, hand-made tortillas, local fare and Agua de Coco... You may try your luck at catching lunch by net or pole, if you'd like!  Play your own version of "Survivor" -  Get lost in time!  Majahuas is a special place... I've never seen anything like it, it's magical!

Best time to see Turtle Hatchlings - AUGUST - JANUARY

Ask Pat about Over-Night Excursions with opportunity to release hatchlings, patrol the beach at night collecting and re-nesting eggs & see mother turtles come onto the beaches to lay their eggs.
