Narrative Vessel by Patricia Gawle
OPTION #1 - Workshop 2018
"Creating Narrative thru Totem"
Clay is a wonderful story-telling medium... I consider it my responsibility, as an instructor, to guide students in how to talk to the clay and how to listen to it as well. I will encourage participants to use clay as their voice for communication, sharing and maybe even healing. Whether your story is a personal message or a global one, you will tell it in clay.
I will work with students at their own levels... from beginners to advanced students. I will share my art, knowledge and experience in clay - taking thoughts and ideas and translating them from clay into sculpture. I will also share my skills as a painter - demonstrating glazes and cold finishes. Your work will be threaded onto a supporting rod to create your story totem. You may decide to use additional found object to complement your work... Students will be encouraged to find their own solutions.
My journey and message has most often been one of illuminating the positive, and trying to share that with others through my art.
I love the process of learning... It will be a sad day when I think I know everything and there is nothing left to learn from another. I am constantly being surprised and inspired. May the learning process never end!
